1. North South University

Established in 1992, this 29-year-old university is one of the best private universities in terms of its academic accomplishments and education degrees in several departments of study.

From having their own auditorium, labs, a standard library and gigantic cafeteria to having their own research centers, sports club and halls of residence, this university has only gotten better over the decades! In fact, they are offering different faculties to choose from, like health sciences, engineering, business, and economics for your undergraduate courses!

Moreover, you will be surprised to know that NSU’s business school of administration was rewarded with American accreditation in 2015 from the US. Organization ACBSP. And guess what? No other universities from Bangladesh have earned this accomplishment so far!

So if you have a passion for mechanical and electronic engineering, or if your career goals require you to study deeply about medical sciences, NSU can be the best university in Bangladesh, particularly in Dhaka to make your future dreams come true.

But remember, NSU is not a public university. Hence, it may not be able to provide all the opportunities like competitive programs and academic clubs a public university can easily provide and maintain in the Bangladeshi context.

2. BRAC University

Located in Dhaka, this university was established 20 years ago in 2001. If you’re wondering why we consider BRAC to be one of the bests, it’s not just us okay! Even the QS World University Rankings in 2018 and 2019 included BRAC in their top list as the Best Private University in Bangladesh. This university is also accredited by UGC and approved by the ministry of education.

The residential campus located in Savar has been praiseworthy ever since it was founded in 2003. On Fridays and Saturdays, the residential students are taken on different tours to local orphanages, nursing houses, museums, etc. Pretty fun, yeah? You can be away from home, live and study independently on your own at the campus, and also get to have thrilling experiences with friends on weekends.

As for your study options, you can get to choose from a wide range of departments. From humanities to social sciences, this university has got it all. Want to study law and governance? You’re most welcome! How about engineering, architecture, or business? You’re still most welcome!

BRAC University is also well-reputed for its highly professional and long-term experienced teachers and over 600 academic staff.

Moreover, if you’re financially incapable despite being a meticulous student with excellent grades and strong caliber, BRAC University won’t think twice to support you financially with their exclusive scholarship programs. And yes, even if you are an international candidate, you will still be able to avail of their scholarships!

Because BRAC is more invested in research-based curriculum, let us tell you, the academic pressure in every semester won’t be easy to go with! You will need to work hard enough to pave your path to success.

3. Independent University, Bangladesh

Next up in our list, we have IUB which is located in Bashundhara residential area, Dhaka.

This university has been active since 1993 and has been ever since an academic shelter to more than 8 thousand undergraduate and graduate students. Most faculty members are highly qualified with PHDs from abroad, especially in North America. So basically, there is no scope to doubt the top-notch education quality you are likely to perceive if you get into IUB.

If you’re a bibliophile, then the good news is that IUB has a large well-equipped library along with online access to different academic books and journals. The classrooms are huge – all 70 of them. IUB has its own auditorium, lecture galleries, food court, medical center, sports playground, and gymnasium.

A likely disadvantage can be that students must take at least 12 credits in order to be eligible to receive financial support from IUB.

4. Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology.

The Dhaka Ahsania Mission in 1995 led to the establishment of this prestigious private university in Bangladesh.

If you have a passion for electrical, mechanical, civil, or textile engineering, you will definitely enjoy your time studying at AUST in its very own campus located in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Point to be noted, AUST is the first one to have come up with its first-ever permanent campus before any other private universities in Bangladesh.

In this 10-story building with modern facilities and infrastructure, you will find laboratories with heavy machinery and equipment, indoor game rooms, and space for car parking.

You can also study your undergraduate and postgraduate courses in departments of arts and science, faculty of business and social science, and architecture under qualified and experienced professors and mentors.

Because Ahsanullah University isn’t that old enough, it has comparatively less administrative and academic staff than other well-established private universities in Dhaka. But this should not be a barrier to let AUST help you achieve your dreams!

5. American International University, Bangladesh.

Have you got a natural flow in English? Particularly interested in the field of business studies and engineering? Then AIUB should be a really good opportunity for you.

This university has been expanding its services and facilities ever since it was founded in 1994. Any international or national student will be able to study in the faculty of Arts & Social Sciences and engineering. You can also enroll for BA and IT in this university located in Banani, Dhaka.

If you’re previously from a Bangla medium background, then the journey might be difficult for you, since the medium of instruction in this university is English.

AIUB can be a very expensive choice – but hey, don’t get upset already. Here is some good news – if you happen to be a son or daughter of a Freedom Fighter, then you will be eligible for a fully-funded scholarship, given that you have a CGP over 3.5 in your previous degree.

Oh, another thing we should inform you about – what makes it tough to get into AIUB is their very strict admission policies. You have to pass both – their written admission test and viva. Having done IELTS previously won’t benefit you much, but they accept TOEFL scores.

6. Daffodil International University.

Moving onto our next top-ranked private university in Dhaka, which is DIU. Their permanent campus is located in Ashulia, Savar. But the original campus with which it started its journey in 2002 is located in Dhanmondi.

DIU was ranked first against all public/private universities from Bangladesh in the recent THEI (Times Higher Education Impact) rankings of 2021. Amazing isn’t it? DIU was also awarded the “Top private University in Bangladesh” title in 2019 by Scopus Indexed Publications.

The reason behind so much honor and respect is very crystal clear – DIU’s academic education standards are very high! Unlike any other private university, DIU offers 5 different faculties and 23 departments to choose from, for your bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs.

You can study courses on applied health science, engineering, business administration, humanities and social science, computer science, information technology…and the list will go on!

Furthermore, you will get too many voluntary facilities while studying at Daffodil. Out of the many, they have a robotics club, an English literary club, and a sports club where you can play football, cricket, basketball, or badminton with your batchmates.

Now that’s the kind of university to die for, yeah? But let us alert you beforehand, many students complain about not having enough rooms for quality research. Plus, there is a high academic load and immense study pressure. But hey, as you grow up, study loads are bound to increase, yeah! Not a big deal!

This 25-year-old private university was established in 1996, with its permanent campus located in Aftabnagar, Rampura.

If you’re fond of reading books, you will love to spend time in EWU’s library with a huge collection of books and international journals, built over an area of 11,000sq. This university also has almost ten computer laboratories with access to over 600 computers.

You can graduate from this university under three faculties – 1) Sciences and Engineering. 2) Business and Economics. 3) Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

EWU also has an extraordinary resource center for research and training. Other than that, this university also offers financial aid to disadvantaged students with the help of a faculty research program that aims to promote research ethics on the university campus.

But here’s the bitter truth – if you miss more than four classes each semester, chances are you may not be allowed to sit for the semester exams.

8. Islamic International University, Chittagong.

If you are a resident of Chittagong, you don’t really have to come all the way to Dhaka to enroll in the universities we reviewed above. You can easily get into IIUC, located in Sitakunda, thriving since 1995.

IIUC is the first private university in the history of Bangladesh that has been accredited by BAETE. You can complete your Bachelor’s and Master’s in the faculty of Islamic Studies and Sharee’ah, with a notable Islamic environment all over the campus.

You can also enroll for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses on science and engineering, arts and humanities, social science, law, and business studies.

IIUC also provides scholarships to foreign and national citizens, in-home or abroad. If you want to study independently, you can make use of their hostel accommodation as well.

One drawback is that IIUC’s administrative activities may not be up to your expectations if compared to other universities in Chittagong. But yes, IIUC is getting better day by day, and we believe it will overcome all its shortcomings gradually.

9. Green University of Bangladesh.

The government approved the establishment of Green University in 2003 and it has been actively running with more than 8,000 students, under the Private University Act 1992.

They offer four common faculties of study options – Engineering, Arts and Humanities, Science, Law, and Business. You can complete both your Honours and Masters programs in a wide range of departments under these faculties.

This university has three semesters with four months in each – one in Spring (January to April), Summer (May to August), and Fall (September to December). They have also introduced local and foreign books in their library to broaden a student’s learning sources.

For financially incapable yet meritorious students, GUB has scholarship programs available. You can get a 25% – 75% discount on your undergraduate courses. Unfortunately, they still haven’t introduced scholarships for master’s or doctorate studies.

10. Stamford University, Bangladesh.

Stamford University, founded in 2002, is the first-ever private university from Bangladesh to be certified and approved by IOS.

SUB has a number of campus buildings all over Dhaka, especially in Dhanmondi and Siddheshwari areas.
